Dubfreeze

No not cold beetles, although there's no guarantee it won't be bloody freezing since it is staged on the 21st of Feb! Dubfreeze (previously Bugfreeze) is one of the years big shows & will be home to all the usual displays & trade stalls as well as the show & shine brigade, not to mention the acres of car park full of our favourite vehicles. The do is held at Bingly Hall, Staffordshire County Showground, Weston Road, Stafford, ST18 0BD. Which is near to brum. All the other info is on the website.

Slough swap meet 09

Last Sunday was the Slough Swap Meet. A good turn out on a chilly morning, Montem Hall was rammed & anything & everything you could possibly want was there for the taking, well if you had enough cabbage. As usual the car park was littered with our favourites. It has to be said that the cafe in the Montem leisure Hall isn't anywhere near the quality of the Ace Cafe, & to add further insult to injury, the fried Breakfast Consuming tools were plastic. Have you ever tried to cut hard bacon with a flimsy plastic knife? Don't try it!

Ace Day out!

It was the annual Split Screen Van Clubs Swap Meet on Saturday, held at the Ace Cafe Just of the London North Circular. It was a sunny day out, all be it a bit chilly in the shade. There was plenty to look at, some good bargins to be had. I personally have never seen so many cool boxes for sale in one place. We had a potter round, had a chat with a few people & got ourselves a dirty fried breakfast served by a rather nice, heavily tattoo'd waitress. For those of you who have not been to the Ace Cafe, go!

OK so vintage is cool, but this bug is more my bag! Spot the clever use of the number plate light adapted into a break light, as well as some amusing police chase action. Seriously, whoever works in the American police vehicle procurement department needs to be sacked!

As everyone in the know knows, vintage is the 'in' thing. But it needs a little helping hand thanks to the modern technology of Youtube! Here's some footage of the 2009 International Vintage Volkswagen Treffen held in Hessisch Oldendorf, Germany. Hailed as the 'best vintage show in the world' showing everything from split window beetles, ovals, buses, Karmann Ghia's, Karmann Cabrio's as well as a world record breaking gathering of Hebmüllers! As always, wherever you go in Europe you'll find a bloke from Essex, probably called Dave, listen out for him at the start!

The Drug Smuggler

Some of you may have seen this in various magazines. If not your probably wondering why it's nicknamed 'the drug smuggler'? Quite simply, in a previous life that's what is was used for. When the Kustom Coach Werks took on the project they found that the whole flat bed had false panels welded on to create a hollow area underneath. Check the making of one of the coolest single cabs around here.

Busfreeze!

Also known as 'Dubfreeze's Taller sister' is a brand new show especially designed for campers & buses. It's held on the 1st on November 09 at Bingley Hall, Staford County Showground in Stafordshire. You'll be pleased to know in this cold climate that it's an inside & outside event so you can nip in & out to warm up! Camping is available but is limited so check it out before hand. Busfreeze has all the usual show criteria like show & shine, club display's, swap meet, trade sales & vehicles for sale. Tickets are a tenner on the gate with an extra fiver for camping (per unit) & the show opens at 9am. For more details check out the site here.

Karmann Konnection Annual Swap Meet

It was a surprisingly sunny sunday morning & I got the train down to the Karmann Konnection shop which is hidden in the depths of southend just behind Southend Victoria railway station & the massive Royal Mail building. The Karmann Konnection shop has a fine selection on sparklingly new & rather spiffing vintage parts for your volkswagen or Porsche. This is an annual event fully sponsored by the KK team for customers. There was a nice (& free) BBQ where I got a can of pop & a meaty burger so I could spill tommy K down my t-shirt whilst looking at some top bugs & buses. I was probably there a few hours, whilst it not being a big do, the set up was casual with people coming & going all day with their own vehicles, so the longer you spent there the more you'd see & there are some bloody good daily drives out there!

Slough swap meet 09

It's all happening this weekend, on Sunday the 8th November it's the 26th 'Slough National Swap Meet'. This year held at Montem Sports hall, Slough. Doors open at a stonkingly early for a Sunday 9am! Inside there'll be traders from europe & the US trying to flog some of their best wares as well as some of the public with some odds & ends up for grabs. All in all there'll be some rare & valuable bits & bobs to pick up!

Split Screen Van Clubs Swap Meet

It's the Split Screen Van Clubs annual swap meet on the Saturday 7th of November. The even is sponsored by the guys at Type Two Detectives & is held at the Ace Cafe, London, which for those of you who have never been is a very cool place for those who love the invention of the automobile. Proceedings kick off at an early 10am & thinks will be rounded off with some trophies at 4pm.

The meet is more of a boot sale type set up for peeps to sell on their old vw bits & pieces that are taking up far too much precious garage space. Old air cooled vw's are granted priority parking so chip up early!

We did the satuarday again & got well & truely lost getting to Santa pod raceway despite having been there before! Still it was a sunny day which is just as well, as anyone who has been to Santa pod knows the wind cuts across them fields & makes it a bit nippy. If you ever go, sling a hoody in the boot just in case! Blimey we're here for weather & travel advice as well as showing nice motors!

You can't see it from the picture but this is a highly buffed ratty, the shine on that rust is unbelievable.

This Karmann Ghia was too low to get in the main parking field even without all the mud caused by Fridays down pour. You would have found it in the 'For Sale' parking area.

Volkworld Show, Sandown Racecourse. 2009

We rocked up fairly early on the saturday. We drove in the back entrance & parked in a little wooded area well away from the main parking space. Despite booking tickets no bugger asked to see them until 5pm when we were leaving, ironically security only noticed our lack of wrist bands when we went out to have a scour of the car park! I don't mind telling you it was bloody freezing & drizzly out, there was even a shameful debate on wether to bother to look in the car park at all. In the end we did, sausage sarnie & dirty cheap coffee in hand. A good day out had by all!

'Ello Peeps! Welcome to the 'Ethel Murman Volkswagen' blog.

Firstly for those of you who are thinking 'Ethel? Ethel who? Murman? She was a singer wasn't she? What the hell it's all about?' Yes, Ethel Murman was in fact a rather famous singer back in the day, she brought us classics such as 'Everything's coming up roses' (which I hope it is) & 'There's no business like show business'. Ethel Murman is also Cockney rhyming slang for German, & since the legion began in Essex, which as you know if you've ever been there, is now more cockney than the Eastend of London Town, it seemed a fitting title.

Now that's cleared up you can have a little peek around. Here you'll spy the coolest of air cooled culture, from the very shiniest bugs to the rustiest buses, what more could you want? OK so I can't do the winning lotto tickets but hopefully us Ethel Murman lot will be able to get our petit booties to lots of shows & keep our ear to the ground to keep you updated about any upcoming shizzle you may be interested in.
